Peter Laufer is co-producer of the documentary film Exodus to Berlin, which was awarded the David Wolper Prize and is distributed by the National Center for Jewish Film at Brandeis University (www.jewishfilm.org). He reported the documentary film Garbage while a reporter at KQED in San Francisco. Sea to Shining Sea is in production, a film based on interviews Laufer shot driving across the U.S.A. immediately after the events of September 11, 2001.

September 11, 2001 Peter Laufer was at a meeting at the National Geographic Society when the Pentagon and the World Trade Center were attacked. Along with all other air travelers, he was stranded. With the world's attention understandably focused on Washington and New York, Laufer rented a car and drove to California talking with his fellow citizens across the 3,000 miles.

After the Berlin Wall fell, the German government invited Soviet-bloc Jews to immigrate to Germany. The fastest growing Jewish community in the world is now Germany. Producers Jeff Kamen and Peter Laufer document this ironic reality and the concurrent rise of neo-Nazi violence.

Garbage
For this KQED TV documentary, Peter Laufer followed the trail of a Berkeley family's garbage from their kitchen to the dump and commissioned an artist to create a sculpture for the family of their own garbage, 1987.
